For All Interested Professionals
Our monthly Table Talks offer treatment providers a valuable opportunity to connect and discuss our professional pursuits. It’s a chance to introduce ourselves, share our challenges, and deepen our understanding of patient care. The peer support we receive is indispensable, fostering teamwork, preventing burnout, and revitalizing our compassion for those we serve.
Table Talk attendance remains complimentary for paid members. Non-members may attend at no charge. For non-members who would like to receive CE credit, the fee is $5.
Additionally, members have access to past Table Talks through their login.
The intended audience for Table Talk presentations includes mental health and allied medical professionals in the surrounding Valleys of the Los Angeles area, with open participation available to all interested individuals.

Multidisciplinary Interventions for the Medical Complications of Starvation: A Case Study Review

Eating disorders are complex mental health illnesses with myriad medical complications. Given this overlap between mental health and medical complications, as well as the importance of weight restoration as the initial medicine, multidisciplinary teams composed of individuals knowledgeable in eating disorder are critical when caring for this population. This presentation will describe many of the common medical complications associated with eating disorders through the presentation of several case studies. It will also highlight the unique, yet overlapping skills required by practitioners for successful weight restoration of individuals with eating disorders.
Thanks to a collaboration with ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders & Severe Malnutrition, this event welcomes a wide audience that will extend beyond VFED.

Dr. Dennis Gibson serves as the Consulting Physician – Research & Training at ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition at Denver Health. He joined ACUTE in 2017 and has since dedicated his clinical efforts to the life-saving medical care of patients with extreme forms of eating disorders and severe malnutrition. He quickly developed expertise in the treatment of this extremely ill and underserved population, and he is actively involved in several research initiatives to help identify evidence-based treatment best practices to address the serious medical complications of eating disorders. Dr. Gibson is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree at Albion College in Michigan and earned his medical degree at Southern Illinois University. He completed his internal medicine residency at University of South Florida; is Board certified in Internal Medicine and earned the prestigious CEDS Certified Eating Disorder Specialist credential from iaedp International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
