Codependency in ED TX - Balancing Professional Fulfillment and Financial Support (3/6)
We love identifying as Eating Disorder specialists. It is why we fight the good fight every day. Gratitude for this was clear from introductions this week at VFED- when we shared our personal origin stories and then brainstormed how to sustain satisfaction in our careers.
Samantha Giertych, RD- upset by a lack of discharge planning options while working in RTCs- set up a network of EDRD services accessible by insurance. But in addition to that, she shared numerous other ways to give back and feel effective without lowering your financial bottom line.
Give back by working part-time at an insurance-based practice Offer courtesy billing, some lower fees, refer to Project Heal, ask for treatment ctr scholarships, create the option of in-person visits- an unrecognized benefit for some people, supervise interns, encourage diversity- provide education and peer supervision for each other, engage in legislative advocacy.
Notice satisfaction in the long-term relationships, social justice, and from watching clients reclaim their lives, Appreciate the baby steps, enjoy the networking, and note the existence of at least some ED insurance coverage for underserved populations leading to consistency in caseloads, we have more extended and continuous care for complex cases - it is moving in the right direction.
Turns out that if we are creative, we can in fact make a living without feeling like we are spinning our wheels.
Thanks to all who participated!
