VFED Summer Case Conference

The team is still the thing.

July is when VFED gets to use all we are learning- to brainstorm and really teach each other in an unstructured consultation group, instead of learning from a speaker.

This year, we tackled a case from Haley Miller,LPCC,RD involving trauma and a difficulty to engage. This patient has thus far refused access to her therapist, and our consensus was to work towards that goal. As so often is the case in ED treatment, good work requires collaboration of the various specialties, with no way around that. Conversely, Amanda Jennings presented a not uncommon other challenge- the therapy patient who needs help opening treatment to a dietitian. This can happen after treatment failure with a nonHAES nutritionist. Laura Gajda helped with language to motivate that decision, Amy Chalker spoke eloquently about aligning with the resistance and Tammy Baghdassarian talked about the containment that IE does provide for victims of Diet Culture. We revisited the patience required to sit with feelings and support a client while they find their way through recovery.

Check out video of this group below. Thank you to all who provided support and helped us navigate various difficult cases.
