Talk Less Eat More - Therapeutic Food Exposures
Talk Less Eat More - Therapeutic Food Exposures
The video recording of this table talk is Here
You know those clients who talk about certain foods that “look too good so I can’t ever have them”? Erin Naimi’s got a tool for that. She has designed and fine-tuned an experience that we loved this month at VFED- Blindfold Eating. This is something to build up to in the office setting, following work on mindful eating, hunger, fear foods, and simply how people show up at meals. It got our eyes out of the way and helped our bodies to guide us instead. Meal sessions in general allow clients to sit with their anxiety and learn they can survive the intimate experience of eating with others. This one eliminates any and all focus on volume and Cals.
Erin (who also offers “mirrored eating” sessions in which she or her client eats exactly as the other person does) guided us in a way that both relaxed us and brought to the surface astonishing moments of awareness and feelings. Stacy Godoy volunteered for the demo (Thank You), talking us through her experience as we all participated separately. It heightened our ability to determine when we were full and satisfied- or when we felt “the click” as Erin puts it.
Watching this video on the website is essential (so join VFED :) for how to be clear on goals, how to talk specifically through any eating experience and more detail on client selection and mutual goal setting. Big thank you to all who showed (and wore their blindfolds)- including Josie Munroe, Anna Kowalski, Tessa Gordon, Lynn Goldring, Rhonda Krick, Amanda Jennings, Stacy Godoy, Tessa Smith, Jackie Shapin, and Christine Loeb
Stay safe and see you next month.
