Resilient Eating: Using the Community Resilience Model (CRM) with Eating Disorder Recovery
Resilient Eating: Using the Community Resilience Model (CRM) with Eating Disorder Recovery
This week we listened to Queen and talked about dogs!
Malia Gallegos, MA, CEDS and Devon Cole, MS, RD taught us about CRM, introducing us to the concept of The Resilient Zone (see handout). Emanating from the work of Elaine Miller Karas, this tool helps us when we experience “too much too fast for too long, or too little too late for too long”
We examined our Resources- these help us to feel calm, connected, present, at ease, or give us strength- they could be a person, place, pet, song, character, superhero, event, memory, or internal quality we admire or aspire to. And they can change over time.
After being instructed to “Track” our nervous system in an experiential (because everybody has a nervous system) we learned to utilize our Resources and some Grounding techniques.
Devon described application of these concepts during mealtime with clients who may be freezing, disconnected, or eating fast. Use of CRM helps achieve the goal of “rest and digest.” Devon gives homework and suggests use of the Gingerbread Person and body mapping.
We were fortunate to hear from these dedicated clinicians and happy to be together again-and to welcome some new wonderful people! (Please join our FB group so we can tag you when you attend) See you in November
