From Lives Filled Full to Lives Fulfilled: Self Care for the Care Taker

VFEDers sure love their January recovery from the holidays. This year we tapped someone who clearly has the secrets to avoid burnout. Because Keesha Amezcua, LMFT, CEDS-S, and Certified Daring Way Facilitator has successfully negotiated multiple careers and specialties seeming no worse for the wear. So she agreed to come to VFED to share her wisdom on the antidotes of simplicity, space, grace, and relationships.

We took a hard look at anxiety. We learned about “crazy busy” and over-productivity, and that GAD is higher in wealthier nations. We examined Stress fueled by professional jealousy and how to constructively learn from it.

We were reminded that just because we can do something doesn’t mean we have to.

Keesha concluded that relationship is the preferred antidote while pondering the balance of boundaries as the most loving thing we can do for ourselves.

She reminded us of PLAY (time spent without purpose) and that the opposite is…depression. The good news is that calmness is contagious. So we agree to some stillness-decluttering helps- and attempt to seek “Present over Perfect.”

Attached is a great photo of our group that day (thanks, Josie) and Keesha’s handout. She used Brène Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection and Shauna Niequist’s Present Over Perfect as 2 of her resources.

See you Feb 10!
